The amazing Barry

The amazing barry

We took the boat 5 miles south from Grafton to a marina in Portage des Sioux that was a few blocks from Barry’s house. He started working on the engine that afternoon. He got the head off and found that we had dropped a valve in the number 6 cylinder and destroyed the piston and liner. NOT GOOD

  1. What does that mean, “dropped a valve”? Was it something you did, i.e. dropped something in there by mistake, or did it just happen by itself? Either way, doesn’t sound good. On the other hand, the weather looks lovely. It’s been pretty cold here – and rainy, which is good.

    1. Hi Liz, the theory we are working with is that a gasket failed (on the intercooler) and let some water in that got into the cylinder. That may have caused some rust or something else to keep a valve from fully closing . The piston came up and smashed into the valve and everything went to hell. The valve broke and fused into the piston, the cylinder liner cracked and the connecting rod bent.
